About the Montana lottery
The voting for the lottery took place in 1987. Almost 70% of the state residents agreed to create the lottery. June 1987 was the month first tickets went on sale and they were for the scratch game called Pot of Gold. They were available in 1,000 places scattered throughout the state. Two years later, in 1989, the gamblers based in Montana had the first chance to try their luck playing Lotto America. It was so popular that it exceeded all the predictions twice. And the 1990 brought the first lucky winner in Lotto America – Katherine Simmers won an outstanding sum of $1.3 million.
When it comes to other games ready to be played, we should mention Mega Millions, Hot Lotto and Big Sky Bonus, to name just a few. Such a wide collection of games makes this state one of the states that can boast of having a rich diversity of games. And these games are popular too: Kimberly Claassen won in 2010 almost $50 million! That’s a clear indication that every game here just deserves to be played.
The lucky winners are different people; some of them were successful in lotteries when they were hiding in order not to get caught by police. In May 2011, Robert Stayton won a jackpot in one of the scratch off games. At this game, the police were investigating his case – he was accused of possessing and selling drugs.
Helena was the location in which his ticket has been bought and he was later awarded with the prize because they didn’t check if the winner had any criminal charges. After it all, Montana Lottery agreed with the local sheriff that in the future they weren’t going to give money to criminals anymore. Soon, Stayton was caught and under arrest.
